General Election Update: Voting Has Officially Begun

Voting is officially underway for the November 5, 2024, General Election! The Voter Registration and Elections (VRE) office has started delivering Vote by Mail (VBM) ballots to the U.S. Postal Service, ensuring all currently registered voters in the County receive their ballots.

This week marks the start of secure early ballot retrieval. Voters can return their completed ballots at any Ballot Drop Box across the County. Notably, VRE has established a convenient drive-through Ballot Drop Box in the Elections Office parking lot at 7000 65th Street, Sacramento. This drop box is accessible 24/7 until 8:00 p.m. on Election Night.

In Rio Linda, a Ballot Box will be available at the Rio Linda Library, 6724 6th St, from today, October 7th, to November 5th, 2024. The box will be available Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and will be Closed on October 9. It will also be available on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In Rio Linda, the Vote Center will be located at the Depot Building and Park, 6730 Front Street in Rio Linda. It will be open for 11 days, from October 26, to November 5, 2024, Daily: 8a-4p and 7a-8p on Election Day.

Voters are encouraged to submit their ballots early and to sign the pink VBM envelope to ensure their votes are counted.

Remember, you don’t need to pay for postage if you return your ballot by U.S. Mail using the pink Vote by Mail envelope provided.

Key Election Dates

  • Monday, October 7: Mailing of ballots to all registered voters begins.
  • Monday, October 7: Voted ballots can be returned to any Ballot Drop Box in the County.
  • Monday, October 21: Voter registration closes. Forms must be postmarked or delivered to the VRE Office by 5:00 p.m. Online registration must be completed by midnight.
  • Tuesday, October 22: Conditional Voter Registration (CVR) starts.
  • Saturday, October 26: 11-Day Vote Centers open.
  • Tuesday, October 29: Last day to request a VBM ballot by mail.
  • Saturday, November 2: All Vote Centers open Countywide.
  • Tuesday, November 5: Election Day.
